Shoeboxes, Toddlers and Teachers

Here come the shoeboxes! The children from Nansha College Preparatory Academy of China have blessed IT Tender by sending shoeboxes of toys, notebooks, and other school supplies. Children from the Sponsor-A-Child-Now Program and Simula Learning Center (Daycare) received these boxes. The staff were blessed to see their surprise and happy smiles upon receiving these gifts. For the children it is a very special gift – they do not always receive such generous gifts like this, and it’s also an encouragement to them that there are people across the world who pray for them, love them and believe in them as our Lord Jesus Christ loves and believes in them. The IT Tender team wants to thank the Lord for the young students of NCPA for sharing their blessings with others, especially with these children. The IT Tender staff would also like to give their great thanks to teachers Carly, Poty and Olivia for making this happen! To God be all the Glory!

At IT Tender, one of our main priorities is to fight for the basic human right to an education. This right is effectively denied to the poorest in Manila. IT Tender empowers the poor by providing an education to all ages. By God’s grace and the support of volunteers and donors, we have an early childhood education center (SMART Kids), a preschool (Simula Learning Center, or SLC), a sponsorship program (Sponsor-A-Child Now, or SACN), and a tutoring program for out-of-school youth (Alternative Learning System, or ALS). We also partner with the government to connect our high school graduates with opportunities for technical schools and higher education. Each of these educational initiatives started up again with the new school year in Manila in June.

Beginnings are crucial. We run the SMART Kids program for toddlers because we want to start teaching children even before they enter our preschool. SMART Kids is unique because the teachers are actually the mothers of our students. The program provides educational materials and toys and then empowers the mothers to teach, play, and learn with their toddlers. We also provide additional nutrition, hygiene, and parenting seminars specifically for the mothers. We thus want to train and teach the parents too, not just the kids; because smart parents raise smart kids.

Things we are thankful for:

  • Jizza Magallanes our intern social worker passed her licensing exam! She is no longer an “intern” but now a registered social worker at IT Tender
  • The safe arrival of Megan and Lizzy from Stopsley Baptist Church (SBC) who will join us until August 5, and a quick but great visit with SBC youth worker Becky Hotard
  • Members from SBC very generously sent out many hygiene and medical supplies as well as craft materials and clothes with the team. What a blessing.
  • Being able to distribute shoe boxes from Nansha College Preparatory Academy of China
  • Our friend Betty Adair hand made pencil cases and filled them with stationary and toys which we were able to give our Food For Life clients before the start of the school year

Things we would appreciate prayer for:

  • 6 of your Night Life youth were accepted to take part in a discipleship camp run by our partner Action International. This has the potential to turn into a 6-month discipleship program so please pray for wisdom for Action as they select the final participants and that our youth will gain knowledge and skills from this experience, whether they attend for one week or the full program
  • IT Tender has many more visitors and extra programs being run this coming month – please pray for safe arrivals, great impact and great fun for the staff, volunteers and of course our beneficiaries
